At St George's,  we strongly believe that our pupils are the most important people.  As such, we ensure that they have lots of opportunities to share their thoughts on school issues – both formally and informally.

We believe that all pupils should have the opportunity to share their pupil voice and we do this in a variety of ways

Pupils have the opportunity to take on leadership roles which include those listed below.

All these opportunities help children to develop an understanding of service to others. St Mark tells us Jesus said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.” We encourage our children to make the most of these opportunities to serve our school.

Our school council are made up of pupils in Key Stage 2, who are elected at the start of the academic year. 

The School Council work closely with Mrs Grazier to discuss ways to make improvements in the school. Regular meetings are held and the council also carry out surveys to find out the views of the other children in the school.

Everyone has a voice, 

The School Council also support and run key events throughout the year.

Work so far this year:

• Running the Macmilian Coffee Morning
• Class surveys to find out equipment children would like for their playtimes.
• Organise and run a book sale in aid of St Richard's Hospice.
• Sell our produce after  the Harvest Mass in aid of Cafod.

We are have a very active Eco Committee who meet regularly to ensure we are doing all we can to help the environment.

We have been awarded the Eco Flag Green flag five times.

Here are some of the events we take part in:

• Walk to school week
• Litter Picking
• Growing Fruit and vegetables in our school grounds
• Monitoring the energy we create with our solar panels
• Monitoring the use of water and energy in our school
• Andigestion
• Waste Free lunches
• Recycling paper, clothes, batteries and shoes through charity collections and recycling schemes
• Planting trees in our local environment with the Duckworth Trust

Digital Leaders are students who are adept at using technology and are willing to share their knowledge and skills with others. Through working with staff, peers and school leaders, Digital Leaders are able to help shape how technology is used in and outside of the classroom. Digital Leaders are an essential element to our computing strategy at St George's, as we aim to empower children in order that they have the opportunity to shape their own education.

The Year 6 Guardian Angels are role models for other children in the school.

Some of their responsibilities are:

• Playground leaders and monitors on the KS 1 playground
• Attend and help out at key events within the school
• KS 2 monitors at the beginning of the day and at the end of play times
• Support the Reception children during lunchtime in the dining room

Our Liturgy Leaders take great pride in helping to lead and set an example in daily prayer in our classrooms, in our chapel and also help friends lead collective worship in their classroom.

The children are encouraged to put forward their ideas for developing Catholic life from a child's point of view.

The House Captains represent each of our Houses:

St George, St Patrick, St Andrew & St David

The children collect the house points on a weekly basis and announce the results in our Praise Assembly. They also organise inter-house activities and games with the Sports Leaders.

At St George's our Year 5 & 6 pupils make up our Mini Vinnies group. Read on to find out what it is all about...

The Society of St Vincent de Paul has been engaging with young people and education since its earliest days.

Today the SVP England & Wales is pleased to highlight its continuing strong links with young people, through the development of its 'Mini Vinnies' programme - a ground-breaking Primary Schools initiative, based on good work done in Australia, piloted in the Diocese of Shrewsbury, and which is seen as having, "the potential to significantly contribute to the future of our Society."

'Mini Vinnies' are children, who with the support of their Schools, are encouraged to embark on their first steps as possible 'Vincentians for life'.  

As Mini Vinnies, the youngsters have their own 'treasured' Prayer, Pledge and Badge and a dedicated website.
